Super Shane wins CSK's 3rd
The 11th edition of the Indian Premier League came to an end yesterday with Shane Watson striking a sublime century to power Chennai Super Kings to their third trophy with an eight-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
The win was even more special for Chennai as this season marked their return to the IPL after serving out a two-year ban for spot-fixing.
Hyderabad, with Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan in their ranks, mustered 178 for six after being asked to bat by the Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led Chennai but a chase that looked challenging at the halfway stage turned into a cakewalk once Watson embarked on his carnage. He hit an unbeaten 57-ball 117 with 11 fours and eight sixes as Chennai cantered home with nine balls and eight wickets to spare.
Shakib did well enough with the bat, scoring a 15-ball 23 with two fours and a six, but his one over during Sunrisers' defence was taken for 15 runs.
With the win, Chennai become the second team after Mumbai Indians to win the lucrative T20 tournament thrice, having earlier won it in 2010 and 2011.
