Rain drenches Dhaka, might linger for next few days
Longing for a rain in the stifling summer heat of the past few days? Well it is here, and most likely, it is not going away for at least four or five more days.
After last evening, the downpour came down heavy in the early morning hours, throwing chaos into city life and pulling a curtail of dull clouds over the blue sky.
Bangladesh Meteorological Department said, it rained 81mm in Dhaka city from 6:00am to 9:00am. In Chittagong, according to reports, it rained 75mm.
The rain has been induced from a depression, Md Shahinul Islam, a Met official, told The Daily Star. According to him, the dull rainy days might linger for the next four-five days.
Weather forecast shows, the low over east central Bay and adjoining northeast Bay intensified into a depression and then into a deep depression and crossed Rakhine coast of Myanmar. It is likely to move in a north-easterly direction and weaken gradually.
Trough of low extends up to western part of Bangladesh.
Light to moderate rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind and lighting flashes is likely to occur at many places over Chittagong & Sylhet divisions and at a few places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna & Barisal divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places over the country.
Meanwhile, a mild heat wave is sweeping over the regions of Khulna, Satkhira, Jessore, Dhaka & Kishoreganj and it may continue at some places.
