Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today claimed that there are no sufferings of home-goers on the highways this year.

"The journey of homebound people is comfortable this year than previous years as the government has taken coordinated and planned steps. There's no suffering on highways this time," he said while talking to reporters during a visit to Fatehpur railway overpass on Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Feni, reports UNB.

Quader, also the general secretary of the ruling Awami League, came up with such claim when hundreds of holidaymakers were stuck in tailbacks on different highways today, just ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations.

Till this afternoon, passengers remained stuck in tailbacks on the Dhaka-Aricha, Dhaka-Mawa and Dhaka-Tangail highways due to a huge pressure of vehicles.

The minister also said all the departments concerned took good preparations to ensure smooth journey of the passengers on road, rail and river routes.

Army deployment in polls as per constitution

Quader also said army will be deployed in the next general election as per the constitution, UNB reports.

"The Election Commission will request the government to deploy army if there's any obstacle to holding the election in a free, fair and credible manner," the minister said at the same programme.
