Pro-quota reform rally attacked at JnU
Students of progressive fronts came under attack at Jagannath University today when they were marching in favour of the quota reformation demand.
About four campus correspondents of different media outlets were also reportedly hurt during the attack while they were covering the assault.
Kishor Kumar Sarker, campus unit president of Socialist Students’ Front, blamed Bangladesh Chhatra League, student body of ruling Awami League, for the attack.
The attack took place around 1:00pm during a pro-quota reform rally at campus.
Reportedly, Latiful Islam of the Daily Samakal, Aslam Arko of the Daily Amar Sangbad, Ahsan Mahbub Jubair, of the Daily Ittefaq, and Kobir Hossain of Daily Sunwere injured.
Chhatra League’s campus unit General Secretary Md Joynul Abedin Rasel denied involvement in the attack and said: “They demeaned the freedom fighters. The children of freedom fighters fended them off”.
Jagannath University’s Vice-chancellor Mijanur Rahman told The Daily Star that the university authorities got a written complaint in this regard and they were looking into it.
This was the latest spate of attack on those in favour of quota reform. All the previous incidents of attacks were carried out by activists of the Chhatra League.
