Hope for fair, participatory polls: EU
European Union hopes Bangladesh will be holding a fair and credible elections where all the parties will be participating in a democratic fashion.
Gunnar Wiegand, managing director for Asia and the Pacific of European Union, expressed the views after annual foreign office consultation today.
Briefing reporters, the EU official expressed gratitude to Bangladesh govt and people for hosting hundreds of thousands Rohingya refugees.
He reiterated EU’s committed support for safe and dignified return of the Rohingyas to Myanmar. While mentioning about financial supports for the refugees, he urged the international community to come for reward and extend their support.
On the note of irregular Bangladeshi migrants in EU member countries, he stressed for return of the illegal migrants as early as possible. He said the EU always welcomes legal migrants from Bangladesh.
He was briefing reporters at state guesthouse Padma.
Foreign Secretary Md Shahidul Haque led the Bangladesh delegation at the consultation.
