BUBT organises workshop on Employability Skills Development
Career Guidance Office of Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) organised a workshop on Employability Skills Development on July 18, 2018 at IQAC cell of the university campus, Mirpur, Dhaka.
Prof. Md. Abu Saleh, VC of BUBT was the chief guest of the workshop while Prof. Dr. Syed Masud Husain, Dean, Faculty of Business was the session chair. The keynote paper was presented by Sayed Javed Ahmad, Chief Executive Officer of The Bangladesh Rating Agency Limited (BDRAL). He provided career development guidelines for the students. In his presentation he also advised them to make themselves ready for a competitive job market. Dr. Md. Harun-Or-Rashid, Registrar, also spoke in the workshop.
The workshop was coordinated by Mohammad Masudur Rahman, Director of Career Guidance. Students from different departments attended the workshop.
AIUB signs multiple MoU at the 1st AUAP-IAUP Joint International Conference 2018
"Networking goes beyond just exchanging information and ideas. It's about bringing people together to collaborate in building long term relationships," said Dr. Carmen Z. Lamagna, VC of American International University Bangladesh (AIUB), as the Chair of the Networking Session at the 1st AUAP-IAUP Joint International Conference 2018, held in Surabaya, Indonesia.
On July 11, 2018, AIUB inked a total of 13 memorandums of understanding (MoU) with esteemed academic institutions from across the world. The signing ceremony was performed by Dr. Lamagna on behalf of AIUB, with distinguished administrative representatives from Adamson University; Caucasus University; Centre for Technical & Higher Education; Christian University of Thailand; College of New Caledonia; Durban University of Technology; Lyceum of the Phillippines University; Osaka University of Commerce; Pan Pacific University; Samar State University; Suranaree University of Technology; University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria; and University of Surabaya. The collaborating institutions agreed on opening the platform for joint cooperation in areas of research, academic development, and exchange of staff and students, expressing their eager interest in realising the numerous opportunities that this agreement opens up for the student and staff of all the participating partners, looking forward to getting to work on some of the prospective projects and initiatives in the near future.
UAP holds Pharma Fiesta 2018
Pharma Science Club (PSC), Department of Pharmacy, University of Asia Pacific (UAP) organised a day-long Pharma Fiesta 2018 at UAP campus premises on July 19, 2018.
Sanofi Bangladesh Limited, Eskayef Pharmaceuticals Limited, and Square Pharmaceuticals Limited Bangladesh were the official sponsors, while Maasranga Television, Kaler Kantho, and Radio Dhoni 91.2 FM were the media partners for this event. Nestlé Bangladesh Limited was the beverage partner. National Professor Prof. Dr. Jamilur Reza Choudhury, VC, UAP, was present as the chief guest in the inauguration ceremony.
Pharma Fiesta is the most anticipated event where aspiring pharmacists from all over Bangladesh come under one roof, exchange views and thoughts. Pharma Fiesta 2018 was held with the motto "Aspiring Pharmacists under One Roof". The programme consisted of several segments like Olympiad, poster presentation, and stall exhibition.
A total of 202 participants from 15 different private and public universities participated in the event. Eminent pharmacists from various corners of Bangladesh were present as guests. BRAC University became champion in Pharma Olympiad while University of Dhaka and University of Asia Pacific earned the position of first and second runner-up respectively. Prof. Dr. Mohiuddin Ahmed Bhuiyan, Head, Department of Pharmacy, UAP; Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury, Treasurer, UAP; and Kaniz Afroz Tanni, Convener, Pharma Science Club, UAP handed over the prizes among the winners.
ULAB faculty member receives Mary Bennett Prize 2018
Dr. Samia Khatun, Associate Professor of General Education Department (GED) of University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) was awarded the "Mary Bennett Prize 2018" on July 5, 2018, at the Annual Australian Historical Association Conference in Canberra, Australia. She was awarded this prize for her article "The Book of Marriage: Histories of Muslim Women in Twentieth Century Australia," Gender & History, Vol. 29 (1), April 2017, pp. 8-30.
Detailing a history of Muslim women and men moving back and forth between South Asia and Australia, the article tells a history of marriage that begins in Australian deserts and ends in Dhaka. The judges commended the prize for "its unique and important challenge to the theory and practice of feminist women's history".
In a prize acceptance letter read out at the awards ceremony in Canberra, Dr. Khatun remarked that she wrote the article as a critique of the "stifling framework for talking 'the Other' that modern history-writing paradigms offer us" and she hoped that it inspires new generations of students who wander into history classrooms in both Australia and Bangladesh.
IUB organises International Rating Chess Tournament
As part of celebrating Independent University Bangladesh (IUB)'s 25th anniversary, the university organised a 4-day International Rating Chess Tournament held from July 19-22, 2018 at IUB campus in Bashundhara, Dhaka. Almost 100 international rated and non-rated chess players from different institutes and chess federations participated in this tournament.
The event started with opening remarks delivered by the first South Asian international grandmaster Niaz Murshed. He explained the objectives and future plans of this tournament.
Prof. M. Omar Rahman, VC, IUB formally inaugurated the competition as chief guest and urged all students to be involved with extracurricular activities more and more to flourish their talent and become quality human beings.
Participants, members of the faculty and management of IUB and full-house students attended the inaugural ceremony of the tournament. Mutual Trust Bank Limited was the sponsor of the competition.
DUCC organises Dhaka University Career Fest 2018
Dhaka University Career Club (DUCC) organised "Dhaka University Career Fest 2018" on July 16-17, 2018. In addition to the job fair, three career related workshops and seminars were also held. A total of 27 companies including Square Food & Beverages, Renata Limited, Igloo, Navana Limited, and Apex participated as employers.
VC Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman of the University of Dhaka graced the opening ceremony of the programme as chief guest. Prof. Shibli Rubayat, Dean, Faculty of Business Studies was present as the guest of honour. Special guests included Munir Hasan, Coordinator, Youth Program, Prothom Alo; Syed Almas Kabir, President, BASIS; Dr. Shahidul Islam, Professor, Department of Marketing; and Abid Khan, Founding President of DUCC. The opening ceremony was coordinated by Md. Rashedur Rahman, Assistant Professor, Department of Organization Strategy and Leadership, University of Dhaka and Moderator of the club.
