The Pink Song - Petty Never Grew
Underground musicians in Dhaka tend to grossly misinterpret the term 'indie', as seen by the deluge of musicians and bands who claim to belong to that genre today.
‘Indie', in essence means independent of any major labels, not falling into a single, defined sound. That being said, a relatively obscure indie gem that I had come across while surfing YouTube, is this band called Petty Never Grew.
The songs Ek, Deyal, Banzai and The Pink Song are all a part of their upcoming album, and you'd be hard-pressed not to draw parallels between them and Snow Patrol. Even though all of their tracks are great, The Pink Song stands out, even though it is one of their earlier works. The reassuring vocals, soothing guitar playing and perhaps most importantly, on-point mixing and mastering makes this song an underrated gem. The lyrics are simple, but deceptively deep.
You can listen to The Pink Song, and all of Petty Never Grew's existing tracks on their YouTube channel.
