Kohli loses top spot to banned Smith
Virat Kohli, who managed scores of 23 and 17 in the second Test against England which India lost by an innings and 159 runs, lost the No.1 spot in ICC Test rankings for batsmen to Steve Smith of Australia, who have not played since March this year following a 12-month ban.
The 29-year-old Smith was suspended for a year and stripped of the captaincy by Cricket Australia following his part in the infamous ball-tampering scandal against South Africa, but his ranking points have not changed.
India skipper Kohli had taken the number one place after scoring 200 runs in his team's first-Test defeat by England, but slipped back after managing only 40 in the second match of the series at Lord's last week.
Smith is currently playing T20 cricket in the Caribbean Premier League as he prepares for a possible return to the international game next year.
England's all-time leading Test wicket-taker James Anderson remains top of the bowlers' rankings after taking nine wickets in their crushing innings victory in London. He became the first English bowler in 38 years to hit the coveted 900 point-mark in ICC Test bowler rankings. Ian Botham was the last Englishman to achieve the feat in 1980.
Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim are the highest-ranked amongst the Bangladesh batsmen. Tamim holds the 29th spot with 590 points while with one point less, Mushfiqur is in 30th place in the rankings for Test batsmen.
