3 Janata Bank officials to be sued over graft: ACC
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has given approval to file a case against three officials of Janata Bank for allegedly misappropriating over Tk 2.35 crore of the bank through forgery.
Golam Azam, former manager of Janata Bank’s Notun Bazar branch in Patuakhali and his two associates allegedly embezzled the money, according to a departmental enquiry into the scam.
The other two officials are Mir Jalal Uddin, second officer and Md Nazrul Islam, former senior executive office of the same branch of the bank.
According to the enquiry, the trio granted loan worth Tk 2, 35, 47, 000 by preparing fake documents and embezzled it, ACC Public Relations Officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya told The Daily Star today.
They forged documents for a total of 244 loan proposals from fake persons and misappropriated the money between 2008 and 2012, the ACC official said.
Based on the report, the bank authority has suspended Golam Azam, now a senior officer of the bank’s Patuakhali regional office.
Filing of a case against the trio in connection with the scam was underway, he added.
