IUB observes National Mourning Day
To observe the 43th martyrdom anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Mourning Day 2018, Independent University Bangladesh (IUB) organised a discussion session on the glorious life and contributions of Bangabandhu. The discussion session was held on August 16, 2018 at the IUB Campus in Bashundhara, Dhaka.
National Professor Rafiqul Islam attended the programme as the chief guest and spoke on the versatile life and contributions of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. He discussed on the struggles and roles Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman played and highlighted the significances of liberation war to the audience.
Prof. M Omar Rahman, VC, IUB presided over the discussion and also spoke on the occasion. Dr. Mahbub Alam, Dean, School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, IUB, delivered the welcome speech. Obydullah Al Marjuk, Senior Lecturer, IUB introduced the speaker to the audience. Jessica Tartila Suma, Lecturer, conducted the programme.
Deans and Heads of different Schools and Departments, senior members of the faculty and administration, and a large number of students attended the seminar.
NSU Social Services Club arranges annual event "Joy for Eid"
To some of us, Eid is a festival of joy and happiness. Unfortunately to some Eid is just another day like the rest of the year. Thus, to bring smiles on the faces of these less privileged people, North South University Social Services Club (NSUSSC) arranged their yearly event "Joy for Eid".
Over the past few years, NSUSSC has been providing the disadvantaged people of the community with bags containing food and supplies every Eid-ul-Azha. This year the event was held on August 14, 2018 at NSU premises. With great ardour, these tokens of joy were distributed among 300 families of Kuril area and the blue-collar employees of NSU.
Everyone present was overwhelmed seeing a glimpse of the lit faces of the people including the Director of Student Affairs, Parisa Shakur; Deputy Director of Public Relations, Belal Ahmed; and the Faculty Advisor of NSUSSC, Md. Mofassel Hossain.
On this occasion, Tasnina Momo, President of NSUSSC commented, "We celebrate the happiness of the joyful festival of Eid by sharing it. This time we tried to involve more families than the past years."
DIU hosts Youth4SDG Asia Leadership Program 2018
An eight-day long Youth4SDG (Youth for Sustainable Development Goals) Asia Leadership Program 2018 was held at the permanent campus of Daffodil International University (DIU) from August 8-16, 2018, organised by Youthink Center, China.
Around 16 students from China attended this programme, where the young leaders worked to create a social business plan after surveying different case studies. Prof. Dr. Yousuf Mahbubul Islam, VC, DIU graced the occasion as chief guest and handed over certificates among the participants. Prof. Dr. Masum Iqbal, Dean, Faculty of Business and Entrepreneurship was present as the special guest in the programme.
Before the closing ceremony, participants presented their social business idea that they will develop in China to solve a particular social problem in Bangladesh. Dr. Neil Perez Balba, Visiting Professor of DIU from the Philippines evaluated their concepts and provided guidance for further development. Alex Wang, Secretary General of Youthink Center, China expressed his willingness at the closing ceremony to organise more international events in Bangladesh in the coming days.
BUBT organises workshop on online teaching, examination, and evaluation techniques
Institutional Quality Assurance Center (IQAC) of Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) organised a workshop on online teaching, examination, and evaluation techniques on August 18, 2018 at the IQAC Cell of the university. Dr. Shafi Ullah, Senior Professor, Department of Accounting and Business Administration, Broward College, USA was the keynote speaker at the workshop. He explained how online teaching methods, assessments, and evaluation are important in higher education. He also pointed out some techniques in this matter. The workshop was presided over by Prof. Santi Narayan Ghosh, Director, IQAC-BUBT. BUBT faculty members were participated in the programme.
CUB holds 6th Syndicate Meeting
Canadian University of Bangladesh (CUB) held its 6th Syndicate Meeting at the conference room on August 25, 2018, in the Banani Campus. Prof. Dr. Mohammad Mahfuzul lslam, VC, CUB chaired the meeting.
Dr. Chowdhury Nafeez Sarafat, Founder and Chairman, BOT; Anjuman Ara Shahid, Vice Chairman; Professor Emeritus Dr. Atiur Rahman, Virtual Dean, School of Business; Executive Chairman Shahnul Hasan Khan; Prof. M. A. Arafat; S.M. Arifuzzaman, Head, School of Business; Prof. Md. Mahbubur Rahman; and Ehsanul Kabir, Treasurer (Designate), were present at the meeting.
A number of constructive decisions were taken to ensure quality education and to support meritorious students through scholarships. The syndicate also approved faculty appointment and promotion policy to ensure and maintain its excellent faculty pool.
ULAB student attends Jaipur International Model United Nation Conference in India
Md. Talebur Islam Rupom, an undergraduate student of Department of English and Humanities of University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB), participated in the Jaipur International Model United Nation Conference held in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India from August 18-19, 2018. Over 400 national and international youth delegates participated in the shadow UN conference.
