Rainy Day Bazar
On rain-drenched days, a muddied path leads to Kaikkar Tek Haat, a makeshift bazar that has become synonymous with the rainy season. Located in Sonargaon upazila in Narayanganj, the haat comes alive in the early mornings every Sunday during the monsoon. The haat's purpose is to serve the locals with basic necessities, such as lanterns, umbrellas, cutlery and much more. It also specialises in items required by fishermen such as whole boats, fishing nets, polos, baskets and timber. With so much to offer, visitors often tire themselves out perusing the goods on offer. Thankfully, steaming pots full of sweets and savouries offer the chance to re-energise. For those with a more pronounced sweet tooth, the market even offers the Balish Mishti, a large piece of sweetmeat, freshly made. The items are brought to the market from Comilla, Munshiganj, and adjoining areas around Dhaka. Kaikkar Tek Haat is visited by hundred of visitors every day throughout the rainy season. It is not the only monsoon market in the country, with many others also set up in other designated spots.
