HC rejects Amir Khasru's challenge
The High Court has cleared the way for the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to quiz BNP leader Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury in connection with allegations of corruption against him.
The court yesterday summarily rejected a writ petition filed by Amir Khasru challenging ACC notices asking him to appear before the commission for interrogation.
The bench of Justice MD Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice KM Hafizul Alam passed the order after hearing arguments on the petition.
Following the HC order, Amir Khasru should appear before the commission immediately, ACC lawyer Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan told The Daily Star. There is no legal bar for the commission to interrogate Amir Khasru over the allegations, he added.
On August 16, the anti-graft watchdog in a notice asked BNP leader Amir Khasru to appear before it on August 28 for quizzing over allegations of corruption against him.
On August 28, Amir Khasru sought one month's time from ACC for collecting necessary documents in this regard.
The same day, ACC granted his petition and issued another notice asking him to appear before the commission at 10:00am on September 10.
Amir Khasru did not appear before the ACC saying that his writ petition is pending with the HC.
On September 3, he filed the writ petition seeking a stay on the ACC notices saying that those were not issued in accordance with the law.
Barrister Moudud Ahmed and Barrister Abdullah Al-Mahmud Masud appeared for Amir Khasru.
