ABC's of Makeup
Why do we need makeup? Is it to create an illusory version of ourselves? Or is it just to cover up the perceived minor flaws?
Well, the cynics and naysayers can discuss the cross-purposes, as much as they want. All we care about is that make-up makes us feel better, releases serotonin, uplifts our mood and helps us be more appreciative of life itself.
That's about all that's necessary at the moment!
Now with all the complicated and philosophical stuff out of the way, let's get on to learn the basics of the art form.
The eleven must-haves or the Ocean's 11 in the world of makeup would be primer, foundation, concealer, setting powder, blush, eyeliner, mascara, lipstick, neutral eye shadow palette, setting spray and of course a pair of lashes.
With the checklist made up and the budget in place, it's time to talk about the products themselves. Foundation is one of the major 'building blocks' when it comes to makeup, so it is always better to splurge on it!
Hourglass and Nars are well known foundations, which may be a bit up-there, but the smooth finishing it reproduces almost always makes up for the lofty price. These brands can be easily bought from groups such as Shop Assist BD or Blush on a Rush and AfsheenBD.
Concealer and foundations go hand in hand, whereas the latter gives a full on coverage the former is used to cover up minor flaws and is more area specific. Makeup Revolution has come out with and amazing and super affordable concealers. Bellissima Makeup Store has all things Makeup Revolution, so it shouldn't be too much of a trouble to find the cult favourite!
For all us girls with oily skins out there, setting powders are a must since we don't want our natural oil to come through and shine brighter than any highlighter. Coty Airspun is Tati's Holy Grail and sits on the face beautifully, sets the concealer and makes the face matte. What more can a girl want?
Oh right! It's also very affordable at a Facebook group called Sassy Chic.
Hands down blushes can change a person's whole look. A subtle hint of colour on the cheeks can make anyone look more alive. And there are no better affordable and good quality blushes like the Milani ones.
Mascara and eyeliners have, as of late, become a requirement for many. Kat Von D tattoo liner has been a favourite throughout the year, it is a bit of an investment but the wing is always on point. However, Lash Paradise from Maybelline is also a dream come true.
The discussion can go on forever but it's never end unless we discuss lipsticks!
Few shades a brown girl must have are Anastasia Beverly Hills- Ashton, Kat Von D- Lolita; and finally Colourpop- Arriba, the brightest and prettiest red that looks good on everyone!
Have we missed out on anything? – Ahhhh Yes!! Primer from NYX, Smashbox or Benefit Porefessional range, Nude eye palette from Chanel or Bobbi Brown, False lashes from Huda Beauty or Sephora and finally an excellent setting spray from Makeup Revolution.
With all these in our stock, we are almost good to go.
From one enthusiast to another, the list can go on forever. But my personal belief is that it's always better to build-up anything slowly; be it education, wealth or layers of makeup!
