10 go missing as engine boat sinks in Turag

At least 10 passengers went missing as an engine boat capsized in the Turag river at Rastompur in Savar yesterday evening.

The identities of missing were not immediately available.

The engine boat carrying about 25 people sank after it collided with a sand-laden boat around 7:30pm, locals said.

Fifteen people managed to swim ashore.

On information, fire service divers from Tongi and Dhaka Export Processing Zone (DEPZ) rushed to the spot.

The rescue operation was underway at the time of filing this report at 12:30am today, said Ataur Rahman, duty officer at the Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters.
