Pro-Oikyafront lawyers’ platform launched

A platform of lawyers 'Jatiya Ainjibi Oikyafront', aligned with the recently-formed Jatiya Oikyafront, was launched today with an aim to restore democracy and independent judiciary.

Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) president Zainul Abedin and its secretary Mahbub Uddin Khokon have been made convener and member secretary respectively of the 301-member convening committee of the Oikyafront.

Abedin came up with the announcement at a meeting of lawyers at the SCBA auditorium in the afternoon, said a press release of the platform. Besides, a 19-member steering committee has been constituted to formulate policy of the platform.

Apart from Abedin and Khokon, former caretaker government Adviser Barrister Mainul Hosein, BNP Vice-chairman Khandaker Mahbub Hossain, former Attorney General AJ Mohammad Ali and Gano Forum Executive President Subrata Chowdhury are there in the steering committee.

The committee also vested all out support to the Jatiya Oikyafront which was formed to press for their seven-point demand and 11-point goal including holding of the next general election under a non-party administration.

BNP together with Gonoforun President Dr Kamal Hossain-led Jatiya Oikya Prokriya, JSD and Nagorik Oikya launched the Jatiy Oikyafront on October 13.
