Bangladesh among 'best value travel destinations'
Bangladesh ranked seventh in the Lonely Planet's Top 10 "Best Value" travel destinations for 2019, which showcased the top ten places for affordable adventures, UNB reports.
Lonely Planet, the world's largest travel guidebook publisher, said Bangladesh "creates astonishingly few ripples given everything it has to offer" and focused on the country's diverse and exciting cities.
It also added that Bangladesh had always been an inexpensive country for tourist and had many things to offer, such as "Asia's longest beach (and an emerging surf scene) at Cox's Bazar, and the mangroves and wild tigers of Sundarbans National Park."
The travel publisher also highlighted Bangladesh's numerous Unesco World Heritage sites, such as the historic city of Bagerhat and the Buddhist ruins in Paharpur.
The report concluded by mentioning that visitors are a rarity, giving Bangladesh an "out there" feeling that is harder to find in many neighbouring countries.
As such, none of Bangladesh's neighbours -- India, Myanmar, and Pakistan -- were mentioned in the report, with the Maldives being the only other Asian country appearing on the list.
Egypt's Southern Nile Valley topped the rankings, followed by the ambitious post-industrial city of Lodz in Poland and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park of the USA.
The Maldives and Argentina ranked 4th and 5th consecutively.
Albania, Slovenia, and Ecuador complete the affordable adventure index's list.
The UNB report added that the Bangladesh government had taken different initiatives to attract international tourists as well as to raise awareness among the locals on tourism's actual and potential contribution to sustainable development.
