SJWS students organise inter-school football tournament

Sir John Wilson School hosted their first ever inter-school football tournament on October 19-20, 2018. Chief organiser Zaiyan Muhammad enlisted the help of volunteers from Classes 9 to 12 and orchestrated an entirely student-run event. Air Asia, LankaBangla, Edison Group, and parents Sohel Monzoor, Sayeed Hassan, N Mamoon and Ashraf Kaiser were the kind sponsors of this event.

Schools from all over the city including Delhi Public School, Chittagong Grammar School Dhaka, HURDCO, Sunbeams, Singapore School Kinderland, Aga Khan School, International Turkish Hope School, and Pledge Harbor came together in high spirits at the chance to bring home the cup. Food stalls such as Pizza Roma, Igloo, Bellissimo, The Great Indian Dosa, Madchef, and Thanda Gorom contributed to making this tournament enjoyable for the crowd.

The tournament opened with a performance from the up and coming band Indecision. An all-Wilsoner band, Areb Not Areb, also performed. The trophies and medals were given to the winners by the Principal, Sabrina Shaheed, and Vice Principal, Dr. Farhana Zaman. Sunbeams emerged as champions in both the Under-19 Boys and Girls categories, while International Turkish Hope School won the championship in the Under-16 Boys category.

 

EWU organises Merit Scholarship Awarding Ceremony 2018

East West University (EWU) provided "Merit Scholarship Award 2018" to 305 students from Fall 2017 and Spring, Summer, and Fall 2018 semesters for excellent academic performance. The scholarship awarding ceremony was held on October 24, 2018 at the EWU campus in Aftabnagar, Dhaka.

Manmohan Parkash, Country Director, Bangladesh Resident Mission, Asian Development Bank (ADB), attended the ceremony as the chief guest. Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chairperson, BOT, EWU, and former Governor of Bangladesh Bank, and Prof. Dr. MM Shahidul Hassan, VC, EWU also spoke on the occasion. Dr. Rafiqul Huda Chaudhury, Founder Member, BOT, EWU presided over the programme.

On the occasion, speakers urged the students to dedicate themselves to nation-building activities and inspired them to work with sincerity from this stage of life and promise their dreams.

 

IUBAT observes National Road Safety Day 2018

With the slogan "Will obey the law; will make roads safe", International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT), Traffic North Dhaka Metropolitan Police, and Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) jointly organised a traffic awareness and workshop programme at IUBAT on the occasion of National Road Safety Day 2018.

Probir Kumer Roy, PPM Deputy Police Commissioner Traffic North, DMP delivered his speech as the chief guest. Brig. Gen. Dr. Md Zahid Hossain (Retd.); Md. Shahidul Azam Assistant Director (Engineer), BRTA attend as special guests. VC of IUBAT, Prof. Dr. Abdur Rab presided over the ceremony.

Documentary films of the DMP traffic department were displayed to make students aware about traffic laws. Road traffic regulations including bus stands, causes of road accidents, and traffic congestions etc. issues were discussed and training workshops were held.

BUBT holds orientation ceremony for Fall 2018-19

Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) organised different sessions of the Orientation Ceremony for the newly admitted students of Fall Semester 2018-19 on October 21 to October 23, 2018, at the university campus in Rupnagar, Mirpur 2, Dhaka.

Prof. Dr. Shafique Ahmed Siddique, Chairman, BUBT Trust was the chief guest of the ceremony while Prof. Md. Abu Saleh, VC, BUBT was the session chair. Among others, AFM Sarwar Kamal, former Chairman and current member, BUBT Trust; Prof. Mian Lutfar Rahman, Member, BUBT Trust; Shihab Rizwan, Member, BUBT Trust; Treasurer; Deans of all faculties; Registrar; Controller of Examinations; Joint Registrar; Proctor; Chairmen of all departments; faculty members; officials and students were present.

 

Abinta Kabir Foundation School inaugurates new computer lab

The Abinta Kabir Foundation School has inaugurated a computer lab at school premise on October 27, 2018. This was a long-awaited event for the foundation and school as well. The computer lab is equipped with all the modern facilities as many other schools in Dhaka. Microsoft Bangladesh has donated the laptops and some essential equipment for the lab.

This foundation is weaving the dreams of its founder, Abinta Kabir, who dreamt of ensuring basic facilities for the deprived children in our society. The school is providing free education with all the necessary materials, day-time meal, and regular health checkup to 64 girls. Marcia Bernicat, United States Ambassador to Bangladesh, inaugurated the Computer Lab and graced the programme with her presence.

 

ULAB hosts Career Fair

University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) organised a day-long Career Fair with the aim to bring together employers, experienced professionals, and entry-level talented individuals under one roof. This Career Fair was hosted by ULAB Career Services Office (CSO) at the university's Campus A in Dhanmondi, Dhaka on October 27, 2018.

More than 30 companies from different sectors including banking, national and multinational NGOs, educational institutes, telco, RMG and FMCG companies etc. joined the fair to offer jobs to the university students from different educational institutions. Opportunities to take part in spot interviews were also offered.

Barrister Nihad Kabir, President of MCCI and Supreme Court Advocate, was present as the chief guest and Musharrof Hossain, President, APFHRM, Founder and President of FBHRO was present as special guest in the opening ceremony of the fair. Prof. Imran Rahman, Special Advisor to the ULAB Board of Trustees gave the welcome speech. Prof. Dr. Jahirul Haque, VC of ULAB presented the closing remarks.

 

CUB holds orientation programme for Fall 2018

A day-long orientation programme for the newly enrolled students of graduate and undergraduate programs under the Fall Semester 2018 was held at Canadian University of Bangladesh (CUB) on October 23, 2018. Prof. Abdul Mannan, Chairman, University Grants Commission of Bangladesh (UGC) graced the program as chief guest.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mahfuzul Islam, VC, CUB delivered the welcome speech and Chowdhury Nafeez Sarafat, Founder Chairman, BOT, CUB gave vote of thanks. Prof. MA Arafat, Chief Advisor to the BOT presided over the programme.

Among others, Brig. Gen. Md. Asaduzzaman Subhani (Retd.), Registrar; Prof. William H. Derrenger, Dean, School of Business; Finance Director Riaduzzaman Ridoy FCCA; S. M. Arifuzzaman, Head, School of Business; and Dr. Nurul Islam Babul, Assistant Professor & Head, Department of Film & TV along with officials, students, and guardians were present.

 

UIU hosts the 7th Academia English Medium Math Olympiad 2018

The 7th Academia English Medium Math Olympiad 2018 was held recently with the participation of students from all English medium schools. On October 26, 2018, the final round of math Olympiad was held at United International University (UIU).

VC of UIU Prof. Dr. Chowdhury Mofizur Rahman attended the programme as the chief guest and Academia Principal Dr. M. Mahbubul Huque was present. The 7th Academia English Medium Mathematical Olympiad 2018 was overseen by the Chairperson of Academia, Sarwat Zeb and Director Kutub Uddin.

In his speech at the prize distribution ceremony, UIU VC Chowdhury Mofizur Rahman said that increasing the use of mathematics in all places, there will be a more positive change in the economic situation of the country.

UIU was the sponsor of the programme. Somoy TV, Radio Today and online news portal Bangla Tribune collaborated as a media partners of the competition. The Daily Star assisted in the 7th Academia English Media Math Olympiad 2018 as the Youth Engagement Partner.
