DU's Department of Sculpture celebrates 55 years of excellence
The inauguration ceremony of the annual sculpture exhibition of the Department of Sculpture, University of Dhaka (DU), was held yesterday. Selected art works of the students of BFA and MFA of 2017-2018 are displayed in the exhibition at the Zainul Gallery. This year also marks the department's 55th founding anniversary.
The exhibition was inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor of DU Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman. He mentioned that despite the social challenges, the students of painting and sculpture have excelled in their work. He congratulated the department and asked the faculty members to arrange a joint exhibition of the eight individual departments for better interactive exchange.
Professor Nisar Hossain, Dean, Faculty of Fine Art, University of Dhaka and sculptor Mujibur Rahman were present as special guests in the programme. Sculptor and and Associate Professor of the department Lala Rukh Selim conducted the inauguration programme.
The best works in five different categories received recognition during the programme. Gobinda Pal received the award for best medium. Maliha Akhter received the Professor Abdur Rajjak Smriti Puroshkar while Amiya Sarkar received the award for best experimental work and Sumon Bardhan received the Sculpture Novera Ahmed Smriti Puroshkar. Sushmita Mukherjee Mishti received the Shilpi Anwar Jahan Smriti Puroshkar.
The exhibition is open for all and will continue until November 7 from 11 am to 8 pm.
