Vote for AL
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday urged people to re-elect the Awami League to make Bangladesh a developed and prosperous country.
“I seek your votes for boat [AL's election symbol] to make the country a developed and prosperous one which will be free from hunger and poverty, and celebrate the golden jubilee of the independence in a grand manner as dreamt by the father of the nation,” she said while addressing a rally at Mymensingh circuit house ground.
Mymensingh district and city units of AL organised the programme held with district AL President Jahirul Haque Khoka in the chair.
The PM said she had no personal desire other than to serve the country's people. “It's my duty to serve you and for that I seek your votes in the coming election. Please raise your hands and promise that you'll make Awami League victorious again like previous occasions.”
Hasina, also the chief of the ruling party, said her party wanted that people led a beautiful and improved life and for that reason, the government was taking numerous development projects for ensuring a balanced development of the country.
Calling upon the people to elect the AL to power again, she said her plan was to reduce the poverty rate by another 5-6 percent in the coming days. “So, I need your cooperation.”
Briefly describing various development programmes taken up by the government for people's welfare, the PM said everyone would get the touch of development.
“No one of the society will be left out of the development. We run the republic keeping that in our mind.”
She said to turn Bangladesh into a developed country, the government had taken up the Delta Plan 2100 and the AL needed to remain in power to execute it.
AL presidium members Matia Chowdhury and Abdur Razzak, AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader and Joint Secretary Dipu Moni, among others, spoke at the rally.
Arriving at the venue, Hasina inaugurated 101 development projects and laid the foundation stones of 94 others in different areas of four districts under the Mymensingh division.
Raushan Ershad, opposition leader in parliament and Jatiya Party senior co-chairman, was present on the occasion.
Of the 101 development projects, 31 are in Mymensingh, 19 in Netrakona, six in Jamalpur and 45 in Sherpur.
Among the projects whose foundation stones were laid, 44 are in Mymensingh, 17 in Netrakona and 14 in Sherpur.
The mega projects include the proposed modern divisional city, offices of divisional commissioner and range DIG, divisional circuit house, Mymensingh Secondary and Higher Education Board, Mymensingh FM Radio, Mymensingh Women Polytechnic Institute, Sheikh Hasina University in Netrakona, Netrakona Medical College, Netrakona Stadium, Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Science and Technology University in Jamalpur, Sheikh Hasina Composite Jute Textile Mill, Sheikh Hasina Textile Engineering College, Sheikh Russel Textile Institute, Bangabandhu Novo Theatre, new embankment to protect the city from the Brahmaputra river erosion, divisional stadium and construction work of a bridge over the Brahmaputra river in the city's Kewtakhali.
The PM declared Mymensingh as the eighth administrative division of the country on October 13, 2015.
