Pathao served legal notice over fare
A legal notice was served on Pathao, a local ride-hailing service provider, for over-charging its passengers.
Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Tanzim Al Islam served the legal notice on behalf of his client Afzal Hossain, a reporter of Somoy Television, asking Pathao to explain in three days the rules that the company follows in determining fare for its passengers.
In the notice, Afzal cited incidents when passengers were charged undue fare.
Afzal also said on November 4, he hailed a motorcycle ride with Pathao from Rokeya Sarani to Bangla Motor, with Tk 121 fare displayed on the app. It changed to Tk 149 after he reached the destination.
Charging customers beyond the posted fare is illegal under the Consumer Rights Protection Act and criminal laws, he added.
