BUBT arranges workshop on institutional quality assurance

Dr. Asit K Sarkar, Emeritus Professor of Edwards School of Business, University of Saskatchewan, Canada, recently conducted a technical session of a workshop on Institutional Quality Assurance: A Canadian Experience on October 31, 2018 at Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT)'s main campus, Rupnagar, Dhaka, Bangladesh. With sharing his experiences in Canadian education system, he suggested to increase student's adjunct activities including industry experiences to enhance quality higher education in Bangladesh. 

Dr. Sarkar is also a member of Saskatchewan Higher Education Quality Assurance Board, Canada. Prof. Dr. Shafique Ahmed Siddique PHD, Chairman, BUBT Trust was the chief guest of the programme while Prof. Santi Narayan Ghosh, Director, IQAC-BUBT was the special guest. The workshop was presided over by the Prof. Md. Abu Saleh, VC, BUBT.

 

IUBAT appoints new Pro-VC

At the recommendation of the International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) Board of Trustees, the President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh and Chancellor of IUBAT has given his kind consent in appointing Prof. Dr. Hamida Akhtar Begum as the Pro-VC of IUBAT for four years from the date of joining. Prof. Begum did her Ph.D and MA from University of Manitoba, Canada. She was mostly associated with Dhaka University where she was Professor and Chairperson of Psychology, Provost of Bangladesh Kuwait Moitree Hall, and Director of Students' Counseling and Guidance Center.

 

CMED Health wins Innovative Award in SVC AISA-18

CMED Health (Research Commercialization of AIMS Lab from United International University) won The HEAD Foundation Innovative Social Enterprise Award worth USD 20,000 in the DBS-NUS Social Venture Challenge Asia 2018, jointly organised by National University of Singapore and DBS Foundation in Singapore on October 15–18, 2018.

CMED Health is provides regular health monitoring through AI-driven, cloud-based healthcare solution allowing users to screen blood pressure, blood sugar, and BMI; it is a spin-off of AIMS Lab, UIU. In April 2018, CMED Health also won the Global Innovation Award from Seedstars Global Summit in Switzerland.

 

EU appoints Prof. Hossain as new VC

Prof. Dr. Shahid Akhtar Hossain joined as the Vice Chancellor (VC) of Eastern University (EU) on November 1, 2018. He was the former Pro-VC of Dhaka University and served as a professor in the Department of Soil, Water and Environment.

Prof. Hossain was accorded with a reception by the former VC Prof. Dr. Engr. Aminul Hoque. Former chairman of Board of Trustees Prof. Dr. ABM Shahidul Islam, where the Treasurer, Deans, Chairpersons, Advisors, Registrar, and other senior officials were present.

Prof. Hossain is one of the distinguished scholars in the country, who served in various capacities like Dean, Chairman, Provost, Syndicate Member, and General Secretary of the Teachers Association of Dhaka University. He was awarded a Post Doctoral Fellowship from University of Aberdeen, UK.

 

GUB signs MoU with top-ranked Chinese universities

Green University of Bangladesh (GUB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with three top-ranked universities of China namely Hubei University, China Three Gorges University, and Hubei University of Technology.

The MoU was signed by Prof. Dr. Md. Golam Samdani Fakir, VC of GUB; Prof. Dr. Lie Defu, President of Hubei University of Technology; Prof. Jiang Tao, Vice President of Hubei University, and Prof. Dr. He Weijiun, President of Three Gorges University.

This MoU will create and enhance the academic relationship among the universities. The MoU will cover some important areas like research and development, student exchange programme, faculty and staff exchange programme, various scholarship programmes for students and faculties for pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate degrees etc.

 

IUB observes UN Day 2018

The Global Studies and Governance Program of SLASS at the Independent University Bangladesh (IUB) organised day-long events to celebrate the United Nations Day on October 24, 2018 at IUB campus. To mark the day, through research-based panel discussions, 15 papers were presented. In the first panel, four papers were presented by lawyer Barrister Amir-ul Islam; Prof. Sadeka Halim, Dean, Faculty of Social Science, Dhaka University; Nazbul H. Khan, Country Representative, Winrock International, Dhaka; and Rakesh Katal, Chief of Party, Nobo Jatra.

Adrian Pereira, Executive Director, North-South Initiative, Malaysia spoke on "Building cross border solidarity for safe labor migration" through video conference.

Five papers were presented during the second panel session under the topic "Climate change, Static Humans, Rising Costs". The session was chaired by Dr. Imtiaz A. Hussain, Head, Global Studies and Governance Program, IUB. Another three papers were presented on the third panel.

Abul Hasan Chowdhury, Former State Minister of Foreign Affairs; Prof. Afsan Chowdhury, Professor, Department of English and Humanities, BRAC University; Dr. Rashed Uz Zaman, Professor, International Relations, Dhaka University; and Mosammat Shahanara Monica, Director, United Nations Wing, Ministry of Foreign Affairs were the speakers of the last panel under the topic "Globalization at Bay?". This session was chaired by Dr. Md. Aminul Karim, Dean, School of Business, IUB.

 

AIUB announces AICBM 2018

AIUB announces the upcoming scholarly event entitled "International Conference on Business & Management" centering on the theme "Integrating Business Research in Global Development" scheduled to be held on November 29-30, 2018 at its Kuratoli, Dhaka campus. This conference is expected to provide guidelines for integrating business research in the global arena.

The key intention is to highlight the latest advancements in the arena of business and management, spanning across a wide spectrum of issues sets apart AICBM – 2018 from any other conference. The academic areas of interests include but are not limited to, ranges from International Business, E-Business, Value Chain Analysis, Entrepreneurship, Corporate Social Responsibility & Governance, Project Management, Management Information Systems, Business Climate, Marketing & E-Commerce, Education & E-Learning, Business Ethics & Law, Operations & Supply Chain Management, Tourism & Hospitality Management, Accounting Banking & Insurance, and Human Resource Management.

A prominent industrialist has been invited to be added to the list of distinguished speakers mentioned above.

NSU hosts roundtable discussion on SDG 4 in Bangladesh

On October 25, 2018, the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of North South University (NSU) organised a roundtable discussion on the "Role of Quality Higher Education in achieving the Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4) in Bangladesh". LEAD, a leading organisation in sustainability analysis and leadership training was the strategic partner of this roundtable discussion. The major objective of this roundtable was to create substantial awareness on the role and the impact of quality higher education in achieving SDG 4 in Bangladesh, and analyse the best practices, current initiatives, and future challenges in achieving this goal.

The Chairman of the Bangladesh Accreditation Council (BAC), Prof. Dr. Mesbah Uddin Ahmed was present as the chief guest while Prof. Dr. Yousuf Ali Mollah, Member, University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh and Prof. Dr. Sanjoy Kumar Adhikary, Head, Quality Assurance Unit (QAU) of UGC were present as the guest of honour and the special guest respectively. The programme was chaired by VC of NSU Prof. Atiqul Islam. Among others, Prof. Dr. Yusuf M Islam, VC of Daffodil International University; Prof. Dr. Abdur Rab, VC of International University of Business, Agriculture and Technology; and Prof. Dr. Chowdhury Mofizur Rahman, VC of United International University were also present and participated in the discussion session.
