Nakshikatha weaves melodies at DIFF 2018
Opening the final evening of performances at the Dhaka International Folk Fest 2018 was one of the up and coming Bangladeshi folk bands, Nakshikatha. The band started off by playing a pulsating beat coupled with a great bandana, eulogising the eminent mystic bards and the opulent cultural heritage of Bangladesh. They boastfully rendered the gems we have in our national treasure trove. A mellow folk guitar piece certainly embellished the band's second performance of a Bhawaiya song inspired by the allusion of eternal love between Radha and Krishna. The following song on their set list was an Abbasuddin classic, O Ki O Bondhu Kajol Bhromora Re – a song that depicts the everlasting appeal of a pining heart. We truly missed Shadhin Bangla Betar Kendra artiste Rathindranath Roy's rendition of the song while Nakshikatha performed the timeless classic on stage. The band also performed several songs from the Mymensingha Geetika. Formed in 2007, the band consists of Sajed Fatemi, the band leader on vocal and percussions, Bulbul on percussions, Sumon on acoustic guitar, rabab and dotara, Faisal on bass guitar and Romel on accordion and melodica.
