Manna Dey-Kishore Kumar remembered in Mymensingh

Sandipon Sangskritik Sangstha, a leading cultural group of the town, paid rich tributes to legendary singers Manna Dey and Kishore Kumar through a gripping performance of the songs of the two artistes on Friday evening.

The artistes rendered 24 songs of Manna Dey and Kishore Kumar to a capacity audience.

The songs included -- “Nayan Shorashi Keno”, “Jibone Ki Pabona”, “Cholo Jai Chole Jai”, “Shey Jeno Amar Pashe”, “Adho Alo Chhayate” and more.

The artistes were Priyanka Karmaker, Anjana Sarker, Shawkat Ali Manik, Samir Sarker, Peu Dey, Atiqur Rahman Bablu, Shaiduzzaman, Yasmin Sultana and Ashish Kumar Sarker.

Earlier, a discussion was held, addressed by Deputy Commissioner of Mymensingh Mustakim Billah Faruqui and Mahbub Hossain Sharif, director of Sandipon, among others.

Paying tributes to the legends, the speakers said both Manna Dey and Kishore Kumar are among those who made immense contributions to Bangla songs.

They urged artistes of this generation to follow in the footsteps of great musicians of this sub-continent to make the storehouse of Bengali music popular once more so that the dying embers ignite again.
