A group of agitated people locked the BNP Headquarter Office to protest party's decision not to give Ahsanul Haque Milon ticket for contesting the general election at Nayapaltan on December 8, 2018.

Former BNP state minister Ahsanul Haque Milon's supporters have kept the party’s Nayapaltan central office under lock and key protesting the party's decision not to give him ticket for contesting the general election.

A group of agitated people took position in front of the BNP office this noon chanting slogans against the party’s decision on not picking Milon for the December 30 national polls.

At one stage, the agitated activists of the party’s youth and student members locked the main entrance of the building around 1:00pm keeping BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Rizvi Ahmed inside.

They said BNP has nominated Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain from Chandpur-1 constituency instead of Milon, who has no popularity among the locals.

While talking to The Daily Star, Rizvi said authorities of the party can give nomination to anyone according to its jurisdiction.

“Our party authority will take decision in this regard,” Rizvi, also spokesperson of BNP, added.

How many cases are there against Milon?

Milon was state minister for education during the BNP-Jamaat-led four-party alliance government from 2001 to 2006.

He was wanted in 26 cases including murder, attempt to murder, snatching and extortion and went into hiding abroad to escape arrest since 2015.

Recently he returned home to surrender before the court but Milon said that he failed to do so in the face of police barrier.

Later, his wife has submitted a prayer to the Election Commission seeking Milon’s security.

Police recently arrested the BNP leader and produced him before a Chandpur court from where he has been sent to jail.
