Reason why Shakib did not train today
Bangladesh T20 and Test skipper was not present during the practice session and the press conference today due to feeling slight temperature, according to BCB sources.
The cricketer came to the ground but left before the practice session and the press conference started. After he was slapped with 15 percent fine off his match fee, and a demerit point by the ICC for showing dissent at an umpire's decision, there was a clamour for getting Shakib's view on the series in an otherwise drab day.
"It's not flue or cold. He has a slight temperature, it was something like 100. We are waiting to see if the temperature falls down to normal. He will take medication if it doesn't," said BCB chief physician Dr. Debashish Chowdhury.
Captains are expected to attend press conferences before the start of the series but Shakib was unavailable at Sylhet as he was in pain after being hit by a Mohammad Saifuddin yorker on the toe during net session. Coach Steve Rhodes had attended that press conference on December 16 in Shakib's stead and the captain was a no-show at the post-match press conference as well after Bangladesh lost the first T20 on December 17.
He played a lone hand -- hitting a 43-ball 61 -- as Bangladesh were bowled out for just 129 in the first T20 and the captain's disappointment was evident when he said, 'Everything went wrong today other than the toss. It was a good surface, we should've scored atleast 175. You must ask the other batsmen why they didn't bat well. I can't answer for everyone,' following the match.
As the captain did not attend the press conference, Soumya Sarkar came and spoke to the media before the training session today.
