Country in deep crisis: Khaleda
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia today demanded that the government release all arrested political leaders and return the countrymen their voting rights.
Khaleda, now in London, made the call in a statement this evening.
She said, “The country has fallen into a deep crisis. There is no security of general people. They don’t feel safety in and out of the houses.”
The former prime minister also called for allowing the media to work independently, letting the administration work without any political influence and reconstituting the Election Commission (EC) comprising neutral people.
In the statement signed by BNP spokesperson Asaduzzaman Ripon, she demanded the government to create an atmosphere for a national dialogue to overcome the country’s current crisis in the interest of the nation.
“Under the current critical juncture of the country, create an environment for initiating a national dialogue to get rid of the crisis, shunning despotic attitude and not blocking the scope for flourishing democracy for the sake of the nation,” the statement said.
Khaleda said the party has called for a national unity and an all-party meeting to surmount the current situation as the party always gives priority to the interests of the country and its people.
“I’ve repeatedly called for the national dialogue with sincerity to overcome this national crisis, but unfortunately it is true that the government is yet to pay heed to our demand,” Khaleda said.
