WHO WILL WIN?
The Golden Globes, an event that celebrates the best in film and television in Hollywood, is a show movie lovers and TV buffs look forward to every year. Overseen by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, The Golden Globes often delivers some unexpected winners that do not always line up with the Oscars or the Emmys. This is why the programme is fun to watch—and even more difficult to predict. We present you with a list of nominees who we hope will take the trophies home at The Golden Globes 2019.
While Black Panther will most certainly be nominated for Best Picture at this year's Academy Awards, we doubt the film will win. But the Golden Globes is known for taking the unconventional route, so, the jury may just hand the top prize over to one of the best Marvel movies ever made and a true Hollywood game changer. Along with Black Panther, Crazy Rich Asians was another big moment for representation in the world of cinema this year—and it played a role in reigniting the romantic comedy genre in 2018. We think it may stand out in the Best Motion Picture Comedy or Musical category.
Even though Bohemian Rhapsody was torn apart by critics, the viewers loved it, and it went on to become a surefire blockbuster. Admittedly, Rami Malek, in the role of Freddie Mercury, gave one of the best performances we have seen in recent years. He did a great job capturing the aura and flamboyance of the iconic musician. Meanwhile, no one in recent memory has had a dynamite film debut – in a leading role, nonetheless – quite like Lady Gaga, who was brilliant in A Star is Born.
On the other hand, when it comes to television, we are willing to bet that the critical consensus around Killing Eve last year is unavoidable. However, Homecoming also has a good shot in the Drama Series category. In comedies, The Good Place, now in its third season, might be one of the most interesting sitcoms in years. But The Marvelous Mrs Maisel, which won the Best Comedy Series award last year, has only gained more popularity since its first season with multiple Emmy wins.
