Celebrating Mother Language in the light of art

Artopolitan, an art organisation promoting visual arts and artists of the world, and Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in association with the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, The Daily Star, Channel i are jointly organising a fortnight-long (February 23-March 09) international art exhibition titled “Celebrating Mother Language in the Light of Art” at the National Art Gallery, BSA, marking the International Mother Language Day (February 21) 2019. 

The purpose of holding the exhibition is to pay homage to the Language Movement Martyrs who laid down their lives for the sake of our Mother Language in 1952.

An open call is now under way and will conclude tomorrow. Artists aged above 18 can submit their visual arts irrespective of media themed on celebrating their mother languages and distinct cultures. The organisers will confer several awards to the best participating artists. They will also honour an eminent Bangladeshi artist with a lifetime achievement award. An unbiased art selection committee comprising renowned artists, critics and the organisers will select the artworks to be awarded. The curating of the exhibition will be based on proper research with modern and contemporary approaches. Apart from the grand opening ceremony on February 23, the art event will also have a befitting closing ceremony where Bangladeshi artistes will prominently display all forms of performing arts in a vibrant cultural programme at the National Art Gallery Auditorium on March 9.   

Visual artists and architects from 25 countries including Bangladesh, Australia, Spain, Japan, Nepal, Srilanka, India, Germany, Iran, Thailand, Brunei, USA, Mexico, Bhutan, China, Mongolia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Austria, Morocco, UAE, Russia and others are joining this biggest event shedding light on celebrating Mother Language through visual art.
