‘Past is past’ for Sabbir
Bangladesh cricketer Sabbir Rahman, who recently came back into the national side after his international ban was reduced by a month, said that he was focused on his future and looking to make the most of his opportunity to be useful to the side.
The decision to include him in the squad for the New Zealand series and the process behind it were contentious and while Sabbir termed it as a second chance, it was not about answering his critics.
"It's not important to answer [criticism]. I want to play well," he said. "It's a big opportunity for me, maybe my second chance. I will try to get back to my old self," he reiterated while talking to reporters at the airport.
He played one brilliant knock of 85 in the Bangladesh Premier League while there were 40-odd knocks here and there that was useful to his side. While his inclusion likely meant that Bangladesh needed a power-hitter to come in lower down the order, Sabbir said that the batting position did not matter to him.
"It's not about position. I will try to do what my team requires me to do. He was not focusing on his past following a series of disciplinary issues and said that the future is what is important right now. The New Zealand series could be the make or break series for the batsman.
"I am not thinking about those [past issues]. Past is past, I am thinking about the future," he concluded.
