HC directs prompt cop action on cases
Police force has been directed by the High Court to submit investigation report on all arms and drug-related cases within a month of filing the case.
The court also ordered the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to set up monitoring cells in all the districts to ensure that investigation officers follow the directive and file case charges or report to respective court within a month of filing a lawsuit.
The directive manded investigating officers (IOs) to explain to the court concerned if they fail to comply with the directive and file report by a month.
High Court bench of Justice Jahangir Hossain and Justice Riaz Uddin Khan passed the order while hearing a bail petition filed by one Md Nurul Islam.
Nurul Islam in the petition sought bail in a drug related case filed against him with Joydevpur Police Station in Gazipur on November 29 last year.
The court today found that Sub-inspector Abdul Halim intentionally implicated Nurul in the case. The other accused did not mention the name of Nurul.
The High Court today directed superintendent of police in Gazipur to withdraw Sub-Inspector Halim from the police station within two weeks.
It also granted anticipatory bail to Nurul, who is a Bangladeshi expatriate in Norway, for four weeks, deputy attorney general AKM Zahid Sarwar Kajol told The Daily Star.
