Mominul to join Tigers' ODI squad
Left-handed batsman Mominul Haque will be joining the team in Dunedin from Christchurch as a backup following Mushfiqur Rahim and Mohammad Mithun's injury concerns ahead of the third and final ODI against New Zealand on February 20 at the University Oval.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur underwent some running and did some light batting practice during the team's training session today but Mithun did not take part in the training. According to team sources Mithun, who struck two consecutive half-centuries, has a very slim chance of playing the final one-dayer.
"We didn't get any slot for scans for the two injured players today and they will undergo scans tomorrow and only after that can we say whether they will be available for selection. You know Mominul has been travelling with the team from the very beginning and as Mominul is there as a 15th member of the team since Shakib Al Hasan was ruled out of the ODI series. Mominul joined the team from Christchurch as a back-up," informed team operations manager Khaled Mashud. Meanwhile, members of the Test squad are now in Christchurch.
Mithun suffered the hamstring injury while taking a short single during the second ODI in Christchurch.
The experienced Mushfiqur Rahim is also struggling with a pre-existing rib cage injury which he sustained during the Asia Cup last year. He is also experiencing pain in his wrist along with a side strain injury that he sustained during the practice match ahead of the ODI series on February 10.
