Abahani crash out following loss
Prime Bank Cricket Club defeated Abahani Limited by 49 runs to go make the semifinals as Abahani --the winners of the past two editions Dhaka Premier League's 50-over format -- fell out of the inaugural edition of the DPL T20 tournament.
In reply to Prime Bank's 176 for six, Abahani managed 127 for 9 in their 20 overs. Despite having a team built on national team players, it was Prime Bank who dominated proceedings at Mirpur's Sher-e-Bangla stadium today.
Anamul Haque and Rubel Mia gave Prime Bank a solid start with a 67-run opening stand. Anamul fell after a 22-ball 37 but Rubel carried on to strike a brilliant 56-ball 76, laced with seven fours and four sixes. The likes of Sabbir Rahman, Nazmul Hossain, Mosaddek Hossain and Mohammad Saifuddin fell cheaply. Pacer Rubel Hossain struck a 23-ball 36 but it was not enough to pose a realistic threat to Prime Bank's score as they went through to the next round.
Alok Kapali continued his good showing from the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) with the ball, picking up three wickets while Mohor Sheikh and Al Amin bagged three and two wickets respectively for Prime Bank.
In other matches, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi club made it through to the semis four-run win by DL method against Uttara Sporting Club. Mohammedan Sporting Club also left the tournament despite a 30-run win over Legends of Rupganj.
