2 held over youth’s ‘murder’ in Dhaka
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) today claimed to have detained two persons in connection with the alleged murder of a youth in Dhaka’s Khilgaon area.
The detainees were identified as Al Amin, 35, and his brother Shamim, 35, Commanding Officer of Rab-3 Lt Col Emranul Hasan told a press briefing at its media centre at Karwan Bazar.
On March 11, Md Rubel, 29, son of Md Nazimuddin of Idarkandi area of Khilgaon, was found dead near Baitul Jannat Jame Masjid in the area around 3:35am, he said.
A case was filed with Khilgaon Police Station over unnatural death on the same day by father of the deceased.
According to primary investigation, it was found that the deceased had an injury mark on his head. During enquiry, Rubel’s father alleged that his son was murdered, the Rab official said.
Rubel’s body was actually found in the under-construction kitchen of Al Amin and Shamim’s house, his father told law enforcers, adding that after the incident the two brothers offered him Tk 2 lakh and asked him not to disclose the matter.
A Rab-3 team conducted a drive in the area this afternoon and detained the two. They were later interrogated where they confessed to killing Rubel, he claimed.
“Rubel was a drug addict and used to steal from different houses in the area to manage money for buying drugs,” the duo told Rab during interrogation.
On the day of the incident, Rubel was trying to steal from their house when Shamim sensed his presence and the two locked in a fight, and at one stage he hit Rubel on his head with an iron rod, leaving him dead, they said the elite force.
The brothers then contacted Rubel’s father, telling him that Rubel died from electrocution, and offered him Tk 2 lakh to stay silent over the matter, the Rab official added.
