2 killed in Joypurhat AL factional clash
At least two persons were killed and 10 injured in a factional clash of ruling Awami League following a rivalry over the recently-held upazila elections in Joypurhat’s Kalai upazila last night.
Police identified the deceased as Ratan Mohanta, 50, and Aftab Uddin, 45, our Dinajpur correspondent reports quoting Officer-In-Charge of Kalai Police Station Abdul Latif.
The clash ensued between the supporters of Minfuzur Rahman, chairman-elect of Kalai upazila, and Udaypur union Chairman Wazed Ali around 9:00pm yesterday, leaving the two critically injured, the OC said.
Police brought the situation under control firing blank shots, the OC said.
Aftab Uddin succumbed to his injuries at Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital while Ratan Mohanta died in Kalai upazila in the early hours of today, he said adding that adding that the rest of the injured were undergoing treatment at local upazila health complex.
There was a rivalry between Minfuzur Rahman and Wazed Ali as the latter did not extend support to Minfuzur during the recently-held local government elections, the police official also said.
The deceased were the supporters of Minfuzur, he added.
