9th span of Padma Bridge installed
The ninth span of the 6.15-km Padma Bridge was installed this morning.
With installation of the ninth span, a total of 1,350 metres of the bridge is now visible, our Munshiganj correspondent reports.
The span was placed on the pillar 34 and 35 of the bridge at its Jazira point in Shariatpur around 9:00am, our Munshiganj correspondent reports.
The installation work started at the Jazira point around 7:00am.
Earlier the officials tried to install the span yesterday but could not due to some technical problems, the correspondent said.
The first span (superstructure) among the 41 spans of the Padma Bridge was installed on September 30, 2017.
The construction work of the long-cherished Padma Bridge started in December, 2015.
The length of the steel structure double-deck Padma bridge is 6.15 kilometres. The trains will run through the lower deck while the road will be on the upper level of the bridge.
When the construction of the Padma bridge is completed, the capital will be directly connected with 21 southern districts through road and railways.
