Eviction drive on to free Korotoa River
Locals in Bogura town today barred District Administration authorities from demolishing two mosques built on the banks of the River Korotoa as they started a drive against illegal structures on the river land.
The eviction drive was being conducted by Bangladesh Water Development Board and the District Administration since 9:30am today, reports our Bogura Correspondent.
There were two mosques on the river land which were named in the primary list of illegal buildings on Korotoa, the correspondent said quoting Executive Engineer of (WDB) Hasan Mahmud.
As soon as the team reached there to demolish the mosques, locals protested the eviction, which prompted the authorities to leave the place.
Zulfikar Rahman, the president of one of the mosques, said the mosques were built on a combination of private land and river land and said it does not block movement of river water. He urged the authorities to not demolish the mosques.
Assistant Commissioner (LAND) Tamal Hossain and Executive Magistrate Tajuddin Ahmed were also present during the drive.
However, the authorities was continuing the drive till this afternoon when the report was filed.
