Dhaka University student found dead
A Dhaka University student has been found dead, hanging from a tree, in his hometown Patuakhali’s Galachipa upazila.
The deceased was identified as Soumik Mitra, 22, a second-year history student, our local correspondent reports quoting police.
Akhter Morshed, officer-in-charge of Galachipa Police Station, said the body was sent for autopsy this morning. A lawsuit has been filed.
Sabuj, a residential student at Dhaka University, went home recently and went to sleep after dinner last night, Jhantu Devnath, his brother-in-law, said.
Early morning today, Sabitri, elder sister of Soumik, went outside of the house and found his body hanging from the tree, he said.
"We came to know that he couldn’t secure good results in his mid-term examination," Jhantu said. “He is a good student. He was frustrated over securing 12 out of 15 in one subject and only five out of 15 in another.”
"He secured second place in the first-year exam and we thought that his results couldn’t be so poor in the second-year exam," he added.
"Sabuj was a good student in the area and we felt proud of his success," Md Sazzad Hossain, union parishad chairman of Galachipa, said.
