Kazi Tahsin Agaz Apurbo's 'Unsettled' at Jatra Biroti
Kazi Tahsin Agaz Apurbo's third solo exhibition, Unsettled, is currently taking place at Jatra Biroti in Banani. Apurbo has an academic and professional background in communications, journalism and photography and is a photojournalist at The Daily Star. He has been showcasing his works since he was fourteen.
Unsettled features pieces that are not pure photographs, but superimposed, manipulated images. “I started to create these images as a coping mechanism for my mental health struggles, which were triggered from the existing politics of my geo-political location. These are also a documentation of how depression and anxiety are political,” explains Apurbo. “The kind of climate and time that we currently live in does not allow us to access our basic human rights, one of them being the freedom of expression. These images are my way of communicating my thoughts to my audience and to the unstable world at large, showing my resistance to this dystopian reality.” Naimul Karim Elin, with his line-up, and flute player Shaibal Saha are set to perform on April 4 at the exhibition, which stared on March 28 and will continue till April 10. It will also feature poetry recitations.
