HC summons Chapainawabganj judge
The High Court today summoned the judge of Chapainawabganj’s Nari O Shishu Nirjaton Daman Tribunal-1 to appear before it on April 24 for not complying with its (HC) order over finishing the trial proceedings of a case filed for rape and murder of a woman.
The judge of Nari O Shishu Nirjaton Daman Tribunal-1 has been asked to appear before the HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman by 10:30am on April 24 to explain why he failed to finish the trial proceedings of case and why he did not respond to the HC directive, Assistant Attorney General Md Yousuf Mahmud Morshed told The Daily Star.
The HC bench on July 8 last year ordered the judge of Chapainawabganj’s Nari O Shishu Nirjaton Daman Tribunal-1 to finish the trial proceedings of the case and to submit a report before it after complying with the directive in four months.
But, the judge did not make any response to the HC order till date, he said.
He said the police of Chapainawabganj Sadar Police Station recovered the body of an Ayesha Khatun, 20, daughter of Md Mafizur Rahman of Kalinagar Bablaban village under Chapainawabganj Sadar Upazila from a ditch on June 14, 2015.
The police filed a case with the police station on August 9, 2015, against unknown persons for raping and killing Ayesha Khatun.
Police arrested one Nayan Karmakar Rabidas of Charvagdanga village under the same police station on September 15, 2015, in connection with the case which is now pending with Chapainawabganj’s Nari O Shishu Nirjaton Daman Tribunal-1, AAG Morshed said.
During hearing a bail petition filed by Nayan Karmakar Rabidas, the HC bench on July 8 last year ordered the judge of the tribunal to finish the trial proceedings of the case and to submit a report before it after complying with the directive in four months.
As the tribunal did not finish the trial proceedings of the case, Nayan Karmakar recently submitted another petition to the HC seeking bail in the case.
After hearing the petition, the HC bench today passed the summons order, AAG Morshed added.
Advocate Abul kalam Azad appeared for Nayan Karmakar.
