Schoolgirl ‘gang-raped’ in Barguna

A schoolgirl has been gang-raped allegedly by two men inside Horinghata reserve forest in Pathorghata upazila of Barguna.

The victim, a class eight student, was now undergoing treatment at Pathorghata Upazila Health Complex, our Patuakhali correspondent reports quoting police.

She will be sent to Barguna General Hospital for medical test tomorrow morning, said Hanif Sikder, officer-in-charge (OC) of Pathorghata Police Station today.

The victim’s brother told our correspondent that Jalil, a flexiload shop owner built a relationship with his sister recently and took her to Horinghata reserve forest yesterday morning. Later, Jalil raped her there.

Altaf Hossain, a trawler driver saw the scene and also raped the victim.

After hearing her hue and cry, locals rescued the girl and took her to the upazila health complex. However, both Jalil and Altaf managed to flee.

The family members alleged that they went to the police station yesterday evening but police didn’t receive the case.

Confirming the incident, OC Hanif Sikder said the victim’s mother filed a case accusing two with the police station today in this connection. “We are trying to arrest the culprits,” added the OC.

Denying the family’s allegation, the OC also said nobody came to the police station to file the case yesterday in this regard.
