Mentally disordered son ‘kills’ mother, grandmother

A mentally imbalanced man reportedly stabbed his mother and grandmother to death in Moheshpur upazila of Jhenidah over a feud of giving him medicine early today.

The victims Marjina Khatun, 45, and grandmother Shamsunnahar, 75, were residents of Nauda village in the upazila.

Imran Hossain, 25, locked into a quarrel with his mother and grandmother as they were trying to give him medicine around 5:30am, our local correspondent reports quoting police.    

At one stage, Imran with a sharp weapon stabbed his mother and grandmother, leaving them critically injured, said Rashedul Alam, officer-in-charge of Maheshpur Police Station said.

Later, they were taken to Jashore Medical College Hospital where duty doctors declared them dead.

Marjina, a lab assistant of Moheshpur Girls’ High School, used to live at her parent's house as she got divorced with her husband around 20 years ago.

While talking to our local correspondent one Shohag Hussain, a resident of the village, said Imran was drug addicted after passing the SSC examination and since then he used to beat his mother up for money for buying drugs.

Nasir Hossain, a resident of the same village, told our correspondent that Imran was admitted to Pabna Mental Hospital and got released four months ago.

Rashidul Alam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Moheshpur Police Station, confirmed the incident and said a drive is underway to arrest Imran as he escaped after committing the crime.
