Woman murdered ‘over dowry’ in Netrokona

A woman has been murdered in Netrokona’s Kalmakanda upazila allegedly over dowry.

The victim was identified as Parveen Akter, 26, a mother of two children and wife of farmer Shafiqul Islam, our local correspondent reports.

Parveen was found dead in her house this morning by neighbours, said Md Mazharul Karim, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kalmakanda Police Station.

There were injury marks all-over the body, the OC said. police recovered the body and sent it to Netrakona General Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Victim’s younger brother Tariqul Islam alleged that Parveen’s husband and his family used to torture her for dowry since marriage around 10 years ago.

“They strangulated her to death for dowry,” he told the police.

A case was filed in this regard with Kalmakanda Police Station this afternoon accusing Shafiqul and his parents Torab Ali and Sakhina Akter.

Police arrested Shafiqul and Torab, but Sakhina is on the run.
