Govt opens hotline for updates on Fani
Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief today opened up a toll-free hotline 1090 for providing updated information on the cyclonic storm Fani.
Selim Hossain, senior information officer of the ministry, confirmed the development to The Daily Star this evening.
The severe cyclonic storm Fani will hit Bangladesh tomorrow, Bangladesh Meteorological Department said in its updated forecast this morning.
Khulna and adjacent districts are expected to witness the effects of Fani from tomorrow morning. By evening, the cyclone will reach southwestern districts.
Officials of the Met Office told The Daily Star this morning that Fani might arrive with wind speed from 150-180km per hour while crossing Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, India mounted its biggest-ever evacuation effort of pulling back an estimated 8,00,000 people from low-lying areas along the coast of the Bay of Bengal in Odisha as the cyclonic storm Fani is set to hit the eastern state tomorrow afternoon.
