Four things to help you follow your daily routine
If you don't make a routine customised to your needs, you are not going to follow it. Here are a few things disciplined individuals follow that you can try to make your life more organised.
Don't bend rules for deadlines
Deadlines shouldn't push back other important work because that will impact your routine for days long after your deadline has passed. The goal of a routine is to make sure you adopt certain habits that never change. Moreover, following your routine under pressure will help you utilise your time the best way possible and achieve your goals efficiently.
Setting realistic goals
If you are someone who struggles to follow a strict timeline for regular activities, start by small goals. Regulate your eating hours first, because it will be the easiest. This will give you a sense of accomplishment and encourage you to master other parts of the routine.
Create incentives
Waking up on time is universally agreed to be the hardest part of any routine. A good trick to make yourself wake up on time is to schedule activities you enjoy right after you are supposed to wake up, like watching your favourite TV show. It may seem like an eccentric activity to schedule, but many confirm that scheduling entertainment in the morning is a great incentive for them to wake up early.
Pen down your routine
If you are a person going paperless, applications can help you set reminders for tasks ahead. If you prefer paper, then carry a small notebook with your routine scribbled on it at all times. Make a habit to wear a wristwatch and force yourself to look at the notebook at every hour. Mark everything you finish on time in a colour you like and everything you don't finish on time in a colour you don't like; don't go for the usual combination of red and green. You will slowly feel discouraged to have unfinished tasks.
