1 held over rape of minor in Feni

Police have arrested a youth on charge of raping a seven-year-old girl in Chhagalnaiya upazila of Feni.

Arrestee Md Bahar, 25, son of Ruhul Amin of East Shilua Napitghata area of Pathannagar union under the upazila, is a street vendor by profession, said MM Murshed, officer-in-charge of Chhagalnaiya Police Station.

The victim is the daughter of a scrap dealer who lived in the area with her family in a rented house.

On Friday, Bahar allured the girl with a Tk 10 note when her parents were not around and took her to an under-construction shop in the area and violated her, the OC said.

Hearing screams of the victim, her mother looked around and found her and Bahar inside the shop. Bahar immediately fled the scene.

Soon after victim’s father filed a case under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act with Chhagalnaiya Police Station, law enforcers conducted a drive and arrested Bahar, OC Murshed said.

The victim has been sent to Feni Sadar Hospital for medical tests, he added.
