Scuffle at Madhur Canteen: BCL man expelled, 4 others suspended
Bangladesh Chhatra League today expelled an activist of its Dhaka University unit and suspended four others following the recent scuffle at Madhur Canteen.
Central Executive Council of BCL took the decision amid protest by a section of BCL men following the scuffle over the formation of its full-fledged central committee on May 13.
At least 200 deprived leaders and activists staged a demonstration on the university campus on May 13, protesting the inclusion of controversial persons in the central committee. At that time, at least 20 BCL activists were hurt in an attack carried out by followers of many securing posts.
An attempt to hold a press conference at Madhur Canteen in the evening was foiled in the attack.
In line with the decision of the council, Salman Sadique, an activist of the DU Zia Hall BCL unit, has been expelled for his involvement in the incident and violating the organisation's discipline, said a statement of the BCL.
At the same time, Gazi Mursalin Anu, general secretary of BCL’s science faculty, Zia Hall unit members Kazi Siam and Sazzadul Kabir and former member of central executive council Zarin Dia have been suspended for the same charges, it said.
BCL also issued show cause notices to BM Lipi Akhtar, president of BCL’s Rokeya Hall unit, Hasibur Rahman Santo, planning and programme affairs secretary of Zia Hall unit, asking them to respond as to why the political decision would not be taken against them for violating the party’s discipline.
They have also been asked to respond by three working days, the statement said.
