Bandarban AL leader ‘abducted’
A local Awami League leader was allegedly abducted by unidentified miscreants from Bandarban Sadar upazila.
The victim, Chaw Thowai Mong Marma, is Bandarban town AL unit vice president and a former ward-commissioner of Bandarban municipality, our local correspondent reports quoting Sahidul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bandarban Sadar Police Station.
Quoting the victim’s wife, the OC said that a group of unidentified criminals picked up Chaw Thowai from his farmhouse near Uji Headman Para area in the district at gunpoint.
Kwe Shwe Hla, president of Bandarban district unit AL, claimed an armed group of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS) abducted Chaw Thowai around 8:30 pm.
However, Uchow Mong Marma, president of PCJSS Bandarban unit, refuted the allegations, and said: “Our party men are in no way involved in the abduction of U Chaw Thoai, rather we strongly condemn the incident.”
The district unit of the ruling party held protest rallies in Bandarban town last night and this morning demanding release of Chaw Thowai Mong Marma.
