Three-day Nazrul celebrations conclude in Mymensingh
The three-day celebrations, including performances by artistes from Dhaka and Mymensingh on the occasion of the 120th birth anniversary of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, concluded at Darirampur in Trishal of Mymensingh yesterday.
Darirampur is where Nazrul spent a year of his childhood, at Darirampur High School (now Nazrul Academy). The celebration at Darirampur Nazrul Mancha, was organised by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and Mymensingh District administration.
Around 30 cultural organisations from Trishal and Mymensingh took part in the cultural shows. The performance of the groups encapsulated the enormous audience present at the venue.
The groups included Zila Shilpakala Academy, Udichi Shilpi Gosthi, Nazrul Academy, Sandipon Sangskritik Sangstha and Shuktara Sangha. They performed musical soirees, while Nazrul Sena, Shabdha Abritti Charcha Kendra and Bangabandhu Parishad took part in poetry recitation sessions.
Eminent Nazrul artistes, Dr Nashid Kamal and Salauddin Ahmed from Dhaka, also performed on the second day of the event. Poet Amzad Dolan presented the cultural show.
Earlier, Minister of Education, Dr Dipu Moni, inaugurated the celebrations as the chief guest. KM Khalid Babu, Minister for Cultural Affairs and Dr Subhas Chandra Biswas, the deputy commissioner of Mymensingh were present, among others.
The vice-chancellor of Rabindra Bharati University, Dr Biswajit Ghosh, delivered the speech on the inaugural ceremony.
The three-day programmes also included colourful rallies and discussion meetings.
