2 RMG workers gang-raped in N’ganj, 6 held
Two ready-made garments workers have been gang-raped in Bandar upazila of Narayanganj, police said.
Six youths were arrested for their alleged involvement in the incident, reports our Narayanganj correspondent quoting Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Bandar Police Station.
One of the victims filed a case with the police station this morning accusing eight persons over the incident, the OC said.
According to the case statement, the victims -- two friends aged 18 and 15 years and workers of Nayamati Hosiery and another garments factory at Farzana Tower respectively -- went to Sabdi area of the upazila yesterday afternoon with their friends Riyadh, 20, and Joynal, 20.
When they were returning home around 9:00pm, three or four unidentified youths intercepted them and beat Riyadh and Joynal and took the girls to a crop field. Seven or eight other youths joined them.
Hearing screams of the girls, locals informed police and the law enforcers went to the spot and arrested three youths -- identified as Md Rayhan, 23, Shahin, 25, and Md Nazim, 22, -- red-handed while the others managed to flee, the OC said.
The victims were admitted to Narayanganj General Hospital for treatment.
On the same night, police conducted drives based on information provided by the three youths held and arrested three other accused – Sujon, 23, Nazim Uddin, 25, and Shaheen, 25, the police official also said.
According to information provided by the arrestees, three other youths -- Sohag, 25, Tuhin, 21, and Naim, 20, -- were involved in the incident and they are currently on the run, the OC also said.
In primary interrogation, the arrestees have confessed to their crime. Police are trying to arrest the absconding accused, he added.
