Man ‘thrown off bus and run over’ in Gazipur
A man was killed after he was “thrown off a bus and run over” by it following a scuffle in Gazipur today.
The incident took place around 10:30am at Bagher Bazar on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Sadar upazila, our Gazipur correspondent reports quoting police.
The deceased was identified as Salah Uddin Ahmed, 35, a resident of the area.
Parul Akter, wife of the victim, said she and her husband were returning from Mymensingh on a bus of Alam Asia Paribahan.
On the way, her husband and the bus conductor engaged in an altercation over the bus fare, she alleged.
At one stage, the conductor and his aides beat up Salah Uddin inside the bus, and then forced him out of the bus at Bagher Bazar area and tried to ran away with her still on board as the staff did not let her go, Parul said.
Salah Uddin tried to stop the bus by standing in front of it, but the bus driver ran over him and fled from there, she said.
After going a few kilometres, the bus staff let her go as she started crying.
Delwar Hussain, officer-in-charge of Maona Highway Police Station, confirmed the incident.
“With help of Joydebpur police, the bus was seized but its driver and helper managed to escape,” the OC said.
A case has been filed accusing the bus driver and helper, he said, adding that the body was sent to Shaheed Tajuddin Medical College Hospital in Gazipur for autopsy.
